1 - Introduce your sticker art project

I started creating art and a story for a comic book in 1997. In 2004 I met a street artist Blue Baby at a party in Seattle. I had always been a fan of writers since the 80s but I’m from a small town and didn’t have anyone to learn from. Then I kept up on the work of Shepard Fairey, Invader and Banksy, I thought it was cool but they didn’t get me into actually doing it. When I met Blue Baby and saw how he used street art as a means to meet people and interact with the community all the time I thought that was something I wanted to do.

I had already been working on developing characters through gallery art, that was eventually going to inform a comic book. Street Art was a way for me to really speed up that process. MumbleJinx, the name, came from a friend of mine, Red, who I worked with at DMX music services. I had been looking for a Dj, Street art name for a couple of months, and then one day he got annoyed with me and called me MumbleJinx. He meant to call me Mr Mxyzptlk, the Superman villian, but it came out MumbleJinx.

My project no one specific meaning. It’s a way to explore my life and the things that I’m interested in at the time. I really like being up in public spaces, and meeting more people who are interested in stickers and street art.

When I make my stickers, I start with a ink drawing. Scan it, and color it in photoshop. Then I use printable laser vinyl and put an over laminate on top. On Holographic or Holographic glow in the dark I print on transparent sticker paper, put that on Holographic vinyl and put an over laminate on top of it all.

I love stickers. It’s a lot of fun. I like meeting new artists and seeing all their different styles.

2 - In what creative ways have you collaborated with other sticker artists?

I like making collab stickers and making shout out stickers. And the comic books I make have a street art aspect to them. I’ve only made the first book "Falling Up No. 1" and I’m working on the second. The first had street art photography from 12 different countries and a bunch of work from street artists from all over.

3 - Have you ever organized an event about sticker art? If not, you can write something about an event you have attended

I’ve never organized an event but I hope to soon. I’ve sent work to a bunch of shows but I’ve only attended one. It was "Stick or Treat" at Homebase in Portland OR. It was a lot of fun. I met Skam and Lox Get Killed. Good people.

4 - What are your future projects in the world of sticker art?

More stickers. More comics. More weird stuff. I’m working on an album cover right now for "Swamp Walk" that I’m excited about.

5 - What sticker artists do you admire or are important to you?
